Saint-Louis is one of the most beautiful crystal factories in France and Europe, alongside Baccarat. With its status as a "Royal Glassworks" in the 18th century, it quickly became one of the leading French decorative arts manufacturers. Its master glassmakers and cutters produced high-quality tableware, lighting fixtures, decorative objects, and other pieces. Saint-Louis uses techniques such as molded, blown, single or multi-layered colored crystal (overlay), wheel cutting, hand-etched acid, etc. In 1767, it became the royal glassworks of Saint-Louis under Louis XV's reign. In 1781, French chemists discovered the production of lead crystal, leading to the factory being renamed Compagnie des Cristalleries de Saint Louis. From 1825 onwards, the focus shifted exclusively to crystal pieces and the development of associated techniques.
In 1989, luxury brand Hermès acquired a stake in Saint-Louis Crystal Works, fully integrating it into the Hermès group in 1995.
